Daren Jones is joint managing director at Jones and Woolman UK; he shares the title with his brother Steve. Having grown up in Birmingham, he joined the company straight out of school when he was 16 and worked alongside his father, the company’s founder Sid Jones.
He specialises in working with clients, with an aim to build long-lasting and trusted relationships and ensure the company’s status as a leader in weatherproofing and building penetrations. In his previous role as sales director, Daren demonstrated his eye for detail and an ability to provide effective leadership, key attributes that he brings to his current role as well. He always takes a pragmatic approach to challenges, aiming to find solutions that work for everyone.
During his time with Jones and Woolman UK, Daren has worked on a wide range of projects – from football stadiums and shopping centres to airports and factories. One of the most notable projects for him was the Sky Studios project at Elstree.
"It was a huge project and required a lot of careful planning and consistent communication with the various parties involved" he says. "The site was nearly 30 acres and included several multi-storey buildings with sound stages, offices and a visitor centre," he explains. Jones and Woolman UK was suggested for the project by FK. “We’ve worked with the FK on a number of projects, and we’ve built a strong relationship with them,” Daren explains.
During the project, Daren worked closely with the team at FK to work through various technical challenges, ensuring that the result provided the client’s required levels of thermal and acoustic performance.
Looking to the future, Daren says that he’s excited about a number of projects that are coming up. This includes various opportunities in Europe and further afield.
In his free time, Daren enjoys playing golf and travelling. He says his favourite holiday destinations are Thailand: “It’s a different and interesting country, with lovely people and a fascinating history,” and Switzerland: “Everywhere you look, the views are so majestic and peaceful – it’s a beautiful place.”
